Snuggling up to your pet at night is very tempting for lots of people! But is this really a good idea?

Having a ball of fluff next to you at night is undoubtedly reassuring. Researchers from the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, a facility specialising in sleep disorders, have also recently proven that having a pet present at night instils a climate of security and relaxation.


Can a pet disturb your sleep?

This is not always the case: some dogs snore very loudly, which may prevent you from sleeping, while others take all the space in your bed, making for a very uncomfortable night. Cats rarely sleep through the night and may get up to drink, eat, use their litter tray, walk around, play (including with your toes) and make noise!

As for dogs: your bed is for you, not for your dog. You should teach them to get out of your bed on request without any complaints, while encouraging them to go to their own basket. If a dog deems your bed to be their territory, they can easily prevent access to you and even bite you!

What about hygiene?

Many people refuse to sleep with their pet for hygiene reasons. However, cases of zoonoses (diseases passed from animals to humans) are very rare. Before you go to bed, you can clean your pet’s paws and treat them regularly with an anti-parasite product.


What if I don’t want to sleep with my pet?

If you don’t want your pet to sleep with you, provide them with a basket, a cushion or a bed where they will feel happy! And place this sleeping solution somewhere calm and quiet, either at the foot of your bed or in another room.
